Some emerging apps you should be aware of
Snapchat and Instagram are the leaders of social space at the moment. They are both great tools to communicate with friends, but they have also become platforms for businesses to tell their stories and reach wider audiences. In this post, I am taking a look at some of the most interesting apps that might soon take the lead in the market.
#1 Beme
About: Beme was developed by the New York-based YouTuber, Casey Neistat. App's main idea is to 'share the moment, without ruining it,' as Casey himself explains in the introductory video. In order to share the video update, user needs to use their phone's light sensor and cover it, putting their device into chin, chest or wall.
Why is it important: video is now paramount. This format is the most appealing for the younger generations that are widely using it and are constantly expressing their creativity with it.
#2 musical.ly
About: musical.ly is becoming more and more popular. The app allows its users to record the videos of themselves (or someone else), while singing favourite songs. We can find a wide range of content here -- from the artistic to the most popular type, funny. It has a great amount of influencers, who can open many doors for the brands that are willing to be original in their approach.
Why is it important: combining music and video turned out to be a great idea. User-generated content is also highly sharable, taking into consideration the funny nature of most of the videos.
#3 Tribe
About: Tribe, to a great extent, might resemble Snapchat. It has similar functions, such as self-destructive messages. It has been, however, securing a lot of coverage in the tech outlets due to its innovative features. Its last update has introduced the voice recognition. App is also known from its group chats, which is something that the competition doesn't have. Some reviewers called it 'the most incredible video messenger ever.' Definitely the app to watch!
Why is it important: again, video is being the most appealing medium at the moment. With the few great features, the app has an advantage over Snapchat and other competitors.Download: iOS | Android
#4 Anchor
About: Anchor can be described as a voice version of Twitter. It is a social networking platform, but instead of the written words, users use verbal communications. Something incredibly simple, yet very engaging.
Why is it important: audio, even though not as popular as visual media, is still crucial. Podcasts and talk radio are not going anywhere. Anchor glorifies this media form sublimely.
#5 Peach
About: greatly versatile app that allows users to share updates with usage of GIFs, own drawings, pictures and many more, using Magic Words. They are probably the biggest USP of the app that keeps interacting with the audience interesting, especially with the funky and colourful interface. Peach could be compared to Tumblr.
Why is it important: unique approach of sharing updates doesn't limit users in their content creation to only one form. Keeping in mind Tumblr's massive success, Peach might at some point find its place in the crowded digital space.
# BONUS for PR pros: upitch #
About: I can't find better way to describe it, rather than Tinder for PR pros. Users don't date here, but they do pitch. To the journos. They publish the story and then they can match (just like in Tinder) with journalists, who might be keen on covering the press release about the client's newly launched campaign. upitch might never see the mainstream light, but I believe it could find some enthusiasts in the comms industry.
