Having an opinion

Nowadays, being opinionated is important. But having an opinion isn't as easy as it might sound.

There are a few ways to become more opinionated. Here are a few points to consider.

#1 Be informed

In order to have an opinion, you first have to be informed first. Read, listen, analyse. Use multiple sources, try to understand both sides, ask questions. Be thorough, see the bigger picture, try to put things in context.

#2 Be around clever people

Having opinionated people around you makes you opinionated. Hearing arguments and debates helps you see both sides. Always be critical and make your own judgement.

#3 Write things down

Having a blog will help you in becoming more opinionated. Writing is a great outlet for thinking. Write things down to make sense of them -- something I've learnt from Jeremy Waite.

#4 Be wrong

You won't always be right. And that's great! Learn from it.

#5 It's OK not to have an opinion

Lastly, it's fine not to have opinion on everything. It's also OK to say 'I don't know' or 'I've no opinion'.

What have I missed?
